Quiltique

Today I spent 12 hours sewing at Quiltique in Henderson. The last time I sewed 12 hours non stop was through the night finishing the bordello costumes for the school production of Oklahoma. Today was definitely more fun. There were 23 lovely ladies in the class which was taught by Anita. She spent the first hour or so showing us what to do with the hundreds of strips we had cut out on the previous day and then we just settled down to work at our own speeds. I hired a Bernina 320 for the day and that was an amazing experience in itself. My partner was Valerie, an ER nurse, and she was so welcoming and helpful.
Breakfast was provided and there was a running buffet all day so it was great to be able to taste all the different recipes that everyone had brought. There was so much food.

I particularly like a sausage casserole made with cream cheese, potatoes and tomatoes. My cheese selection was well received but everyone was a bit suspicious of the Branson pickle!
Throughout the day there were plenty of breaks including spot prizes and even a bit of gambling! This is Las Vegas after all - I lost of course. Winner was Christine whose daughter is coming to London at Christmas so it was great to chat to her. She was worried about clothes for the trip as no-one has a coat in Las Vegas!
Also remember this is taking place in a quilt shop and not just any quilt shop! Quiltique has everything you could possibly need and the friendliest staff. So every once in a while you just had to stroll around the shop and see what's new. Fantastic.
We finished at 9pm and it was quite sad to say goodbye to these new friends who had shared their stories and been so welcoming. As for the quilt.... It's almost done and I will post photos soon. It is called 'scrappy trip around the world'.
The mountains are never far away in Las Vegas!
