Down at Bear Lake

You can only drive to Bear Lake if you get up early as there is limited parking there, otherwise you have to catch a couple of shuttle buses so we set our alarms and were able to snag one of the last places in the lot just after 7.30.

There is a reason it is called Bear Lake...

We walked around the lake, it is impossible to take a bad photograph of this place. It is stunning.

Trails are easy to follow in the National Parks.

We sat for ages admiring the view (and planning quilt projects!).

There were very few people about.

There were hundreds of these..

And quite a few of these..

Proof that we were there!

Other visitors started to arrive...

...so we climbed up to Nymph Lake.

The trail was lovely..

...and it was worth all of the effort.

We left the mountains after having a picnic lunch at the lake and headed back to Estes park.

We passed a drive by coffee shop, we need these in England!

And another quilt shop where we purchase some fabric to finish the jelly roll quilts. We spent the afternoon working on these.

After a couple of hours we strolled in to Estes Park.

We decided to walk although this was tempting..

Estes Park is quaint and full of flowers. It was also hit by the floods last September and many of the shops and restaurants have had to be renovated.

We were fascinated by a doggy shop. This is a doggy pram!

Doggy panniers for when you can't carry all of your shopping?

These guys were off on a ghost tour. The nearby Stanley Hotel was the setting for 'The Shining'.

The local theatre had something for everyone! Today Denver is playing the San Francisco 49ers.

Toffee apples are popular.

As is salt water taffy.

Here is the restaurant we ate at when we first arrived.

Farewell Estes Park! Tomorrow we are driving over the top of the Rockies!!
