Another 200 miles east and in the middle of the desert I found a travel centre. These are excellent places to rest up on a long journey. As well as a restaurant and shop there were showers, a laundry and a little cinema. Oh yes, and a casino. I went to Dairy Queen which I first discovered in Sedona with Mollie.
I had time before check in to investigate Santa Fe's quilt shop. It was really lovely and the ladies were very friendly. I bought some Route 66 fabric to add to my collection. Maybe this is the year that I will actually make something from it.
Then on to the Pueblo Bonito Bed and Breakfast. It wasn't easy to find and I had to do a few U turns on the way. I had already noticed that most of the buildings were flat roofed and adobe style.
And now for my room(s). This is definitely not what I booked but the lady at the desk said that I had been upgraded! I could quite happily live here.
This is my sitting room.
And a bedroom with a walk in wardrobe.
A full kitchen with all the equipment you need.
And a lovely bathroom! If you are ever in Santa Fe you should stay here.
I reluctantly left my new home and set off to explore the old town.
It's like nowhere I've seen before.
Very busy.
Once again the Native Americans are everywhere selling their lovely jewellery.
Santa fe is very colourful. The shops are extremely exclusive and expensive.
The cathedral.
I ate Mexican food at The Shed.
It was much too hot for me and the waiter had to bring me loads of water and sour cream.
Late at night there was another big storm and lightening struck twice in the town. Apparently this is nothing to worry about .....
